Udas Naslain(اداس نسلیں) Novel An excellent fictional story written about the Partition of India authored by Abdullah Hussain. This novel is unusual in that it is based on human life and its psyche, rather than sentimentality. Even after half a century has passed, it has maintained its interest in youth fully intact.

Abdullah Hussein began acquiring materials to write “Udas Naslain Novel” . He worked on it for five years, and the novel was completed. Abdullah Hussain has named this novel after his father. I think many of our intellectuals on Pakistan’s history object to the fact that it has a deceptive element to it. I would say that reading this novel will make it much easier to get to the truth.

Today we will discuss a book that is an enormous literary achievement. This novel is divided into three parts:

‘The British Rule’. Which has a total of 3 sections. This section describes the British rule in India.

The second part is titled ‘Indian Independence Movement’. Beginning with the twelfth section, it ends with the thirty-seventh section. This section deals with the liberation of Indians from British slavery and the Indian independence movement.

The third part is about ‘Partition of India’ which ends in the thirty-eighth section to the forty-sixth section. In this part, the division that took place as a result of the movement which came to the fore in the form of Pakistan and India is mentioned.

The fourth Part of the ‘conclusion’. It has up to fifty sections. A picture is shown of the refugees’ stay in Lahore in this section.

The story and characters of the novel:

History of India and its socio-political conditions are discussed. World War I, the Jallianwala Bagh incident (April 7), the Congress’s resistance to the British government, the role of the Muslim League, the persecution of human beings during the famine and partition in Bengal and the abuse and harassment are shown.

In this novel two Muslim families are mentioned. One is the family of Roshan Agha who has a very large feudal and political influence. On the other side is the family of Ayaz Baig and Niaz Baig who are farmers in Roshanpur village.

The main character of this novel Udas Naslain is Naeem, son of Niaz Beg. Who returns to Roshanpur after completing his education from Calcutta. It is during this time that World War I begins and Naeem is forcibly recruited and sent to Europe. From there Naeem travels to Africa where one of his arms is amputated. Upon returning to the war, Naeem realizes just how much the government of the day and its people are sucking the blood of the Indians. At the same time, Naeem joins the Congress party. Some time later, Naeem marries his love, Roshan Agha’s daughter Azra. Many more characters enter and there are many new twists and turns in the story and it ends in the case of Pakistan and India.

In Udaas Naslain’s novel, the Muslim families play a major role in the plot and characters. Due to the lack of interest in his other works, this works against him. One such family is Roshan Agha’s, who has a great deal of political influence. On the other side are Ayaz Baig and Niaz Baig, whose family cultivates in Roshanpur village.

After that, the story takes many turns and includes many characters, including Naeem’s story
Relationships. The story ends with their migration to Pakistan, India’s partition, and
